•Small changes in the paper quality cause density variations
•Every reel change causes density changes
Speed Changes
•Every change of the press speed will cause deviations in the density because the transport of the colour from the inker to the substrate is not linear to speed changes.
Temperature
•The temperature has a significant influence on the viscosity of the ink. Due to environmental influences or to the duration of operation the press develops more or less heat in the inkers. Even the substrate can have different temperatures and thus influence the ink. Viscosity changes of the ink will also cause variations in the overprint of the different inks because of the wet on wet printing in the offset technology.
Ink Train
•The “ink train” is the timeframe that the press needs on a certain ink key position to execute a density change. For example does it always take longer to execute downwards to a lower density level.
